Phonics teaching is an integral part of literacy curriculums in British, American and bilingual schools but how much phonics teaching takes place in other English language teaching contexts? EFL teachers often teach their young learners whole words, their pronunciation and meaning rather than breaking words down and looking at patterns to help with spelling or reading and writing. Course books are catching up with the importance of phonics, as are teachers. In this webinar, we will look at how integrating short, sharp, simple bursts of phonics in our lessons can develop confident young readers and spellers and lay a solid foundation for future language awareness and learning.
